Countdown #96: Berlin, 1936
In which Hitler's Aryan Dream is thwarted by two Americans
November 4, 2025
Greetings, my legions of Substack readers. Once again, I’m just posting a summary of this week’s Countdown with links to the full post and podcast. Today is a relatively short one…
There are now 672 days remaining until the Centennial.
In Countdown #96, we make the first of two stops across the pond, first to Germany for the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Next week to London for the BBC’s launch of the world’s first regularly scheduled television service.
In addition to providing a showcase for Aryan Supremacy, Adolph Hitler’s grand plan for the Quadrennial Games in 1936 included demonstrating Nazi Germany’s technical expertise with the first televised transmission of an international sporting event.
His grand designs fell short when two Americans – Jesse Owens and Philo T. Farnsworth - stole the show.
